Hey there Auburn & Opelika fitness enthusiasts!
If you’ve ever spoken to anyone on our team, you know that weight training (aka resistance training) is at the forefront of what we do. It’s the most effective way to get stronger, burn fat, and boost energy for both your body and mind.
The Benefits of Strength Training
Strength training offers fat-burning benefits long after your lifting session ends. Unlike cardio, which primarily burns calories during the activity, muscle continues to burn fat even when you’re resting. Simply put, building muscle increases your metabolic rate, helping you burn more calories throughout the day.
When someone comes to us wanting to upgrade their physique, we always start with building muscle. It’s the foundation for creating a lean, strong body, and it has numerous other health benefits, from improving bone density to enhancing mental clarity.
How to Get Started
You don’t necessarily need to join a gym to start strength training. You can begin with bodyweight workouts at home—there are plenty of free resources online. Just google “bodyweight workouts” to find some great routines to follow.
That being said, I’m a huge advocate for changing your environment if you want to change your behavior. For most of us, our home environment isn’t the most conducive to building consistent exercise habits (not yet, at least!). Finding a gym or getting an accountability partner, whether it’s a spouse, close friend, or coach, can boost your likelihood of success and make the experience more enjoyable.
All Movement is Good Movement
To be clear, this isn’t to say that other forms of movement aren’t beneficial! We’re huge advocates for all kinds of movement, especially activities that you enjoy. Whether it’s running, swimming, dancing, or biking, if it gets you moving, it’s a win. But we recommend adding weightlifting to your routine to maximize your results.
Conclusion
If you want to upgrade your physique, feel stronger, and have more energy, start incorporating strength training into your routine. It’s one of the most powerful tools you can use to transform your body and your health. So pick up those heavy weights and start seeing the changes!
Keep moving… Stay moving… Stay healthy!
In good health,
