Why Midlife Starts at 39: Taking Control of Your Health Before It’s Too Late

Hey there Auburn & Opelika fitness enthusiasts!

Let’s have an honest heart-to-heart. The average lifespan in America is around 79 years for women and 75 years for men, which means, on average, midlife is closer to 39 years old—not 50.

I’m not saying this to scare you, but if you’re waiting for a wake-up call to make a change that you know needs to happen, now is the time.

Alarming Health Statistics

The current state of health in America is concerning:

  • 73.6% of Americans are overweight or obese.
  • 48.1% of Americans have high blood pressure.
  • 40% of Americans are pre-diabetic.

And here’s the kicker—most people don’t even realize they’re at risk.

If these conditions apply to you, 79 may not be your life expectancy. Plus, the years you do have will likely include:

  • 💰 Higher medical bills (~$2000 more annually)
  • 🫀 Increased risk of heart attack
  • 🧠 Greater likelihood of stroke
  • 💉 Possibility of developing diabetes
  • 😞 Increased risk of depression
  • 🦠 Higher chances of cancer

The Stark Reality

The reality really is this stark:

Option A: Make healthy choices now—live to 79 and beyond, staying active and enjoying life.

Option B: Do nothing—face a shorter lifespan with a lower quality of life, burdened by higher medical bills and health complications.

It’s Never Too Late to Make a Change

Even if the odds feel stacked against you, you can still make a change. If you want to live your best life, be there for your kids and grandkids, and show up as your best self in your career and relationships, you must take ownership of your health.

Where to Start

  • Move More: Aim to get at least 30 minutes of physical activity daily.
  • Eat Well: Focus on a balanced diet rich in whole foods, lean proteins, and healthy fats.
  • Prioritize Sleep: Get 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night.
  • Manage Stress: Practice mindfulness, meditation, or other stress-relief techniques.
  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Remember, small changes can lead to big results over time. Your health is your most valuable asset—don’t wait until it’s too late to start taking care of it.

Keep moving… Stay moving… Stay healthy!
