How to Avoid Holiday Weight Gain: 3 Tips for a Healthier Season

Hey there Auburn & Opelika fitness enthusiasts!

Every year, between Thanksgiving and New Year’s, the average American adult gains about 7 lbs. To put that into perspective, that’s equivalent to:

  • 126 Krispy Kreme Doughnuts
  • 175 Cans of Coca-Cola
  • 58 Chick-Fil-A Sandwiches

But it doesn’t have to be that way! Here are three actionable tips to help you get through the holidays this year without packing on the extra pounds.

1. Moderation is Key

I’m not going to tell you to skip the holiday parties, pass on the eggnog, or refuse every cookie that comes into the office—that’s just not realistic. But at the same time, you don’t need to indulge in everything. Just because there are more sweet treats around doesn’t mean you should let go of all control. Enjoy, but in moderation!

2. Stay Moving

With colder weather, it’s tempting to stay inside and be less active. Still, it’s important to keep moving, even in winter. Bundle up and go for a walk at lunch, take the dog for a stroll after dinner, or go for a morning walk before breakfast. Just keep moving to burn off those extra calories.

3. Don’t Wait Until January

Many people say they’ll start a fitness regimen in January, but the truth is, most don’t follow through. There are always excuses. Why wait when you can start today? There’s never a better time to take control of your health than right now.

Conclusion

The holiday season doesn’t have to be a time of weight gain. With moderation, movement, and action, you can navigate the holidays while still enjoying them.

Keep moving… Stay moving… Stay healthy!

In good health,
