Why You Shouldn’t Let Perfection Be the Enemy of Good in Your Fitness Journey

Hey there Auburn / Opelika fitness enthusiast!

Over my last 12 years in the fitness industry, I’ve had conversations with over 2,000 different individuals about their fitness journeys. These conversations often involve discussing their goals, methods they’ve tried in the past, and a potential clear route forward for them to work on.

In at least a quarter of these conversations, I hear a similar sentiment: “I’m too busy to commit to a full-time program right now.”

I Understand the Struggle

I totally hear you, and I understand. Committing to a full-time program—or what you view as a full-time program—can be daunting. Between getting the kids ready for school, going to work all day, cooking dinner, doing laundry, cleaning the house, making sure the kids do their homework, walking the dog… the list goes on and on. How are you supposed to fit the gym into that already-busy schedule?

Start with Small, Manageable Steps

Sometimes, committing to a 3-5 day gym routine isn’t the answer. Sometimes, the answer is simply committing to walking around the neighborhood with your family after dinner for 10 minutes. Or taking a brisk walk during your lunch break at work. Or even waking up 10 minutes early to stretch.

You don’t need to jump right into the perfect routine to see results. In fact, if you’re currently pretty sedentary, anything is better than nothing.

Progress Over Perfection

Don’t let perfection be the enemy of good. Just start. It doesn’t need to be picture-perfect. You don’t need to start with the routine you want or need in the long run; you just need to start somewhere.

Even small, consistent actions can lead to significant improvements in your health and well-being. Remember, every bit of movement counts and adds up over time. The goal is to keep moving forward, one step at a time.

Conclusion

Embrace the process and remember that it’s not about doing everything perfectly; it’s about making progress. Consistent, small steps can lead to big changes over time.

Keep moving… Stay moving… Stay healthy!

In good health,
